Exclusive Visit to Chandil Centre: A Journey of Discovery

On February 15th, 2025, a visit was conducted to Udaipur village in Kandra, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, where 40–45 students were observed. The tutors leading the program include Mr. Buddheswar Mahato, Mrs. Nepali Murmu, and Mr. Suresh Hansda. The primary objective of this initiative is to integrate students from remote backgrounds into the mainstream educational system.

Efforts are ongoing to address social challenges such as liquor addiction and child labor, with Mr. Suresh Hansda achieving notable progress in tackling these issues. A significant concern is the language barrier, as most students come from Santhal-speaking backgrounds and face difficulties with Hindi and English, making the learning process more challenging. Additional language support is essential to help them adapt.

Attendance averages 50–60%, as many students are compelled to work in various places to support their families. Additionally, some students exhibit signs of psychosis and Down syndrome, highlighting the need for special attention and tailored assistance to address their specific needs.

Despite these challenges, tutors report that students are fast learners who retain lessons for extended periods. To improve their overall well-being, nutritional support in the form of gur (jaggery) and chana (chickpeas) has been requested. Moreover, greater parental and family involvement is needed, as their encouragement plays a vital role in reinforcing learning at home.

The Friday Tutor Training Program has been well-received by the tutors and is regarded as beneficial for enhancing their teaching skills. They express a strong desire for the program to continue, as it has provided valuable training and support.

Overall, the initiative is making a positive impact on both the educational and personal growth of the students.
