A Field Visit to Jamshedpur’s Sahaaj Pathshalas
Relearn Foundation (RELF) is driven by a core mission to transform lives through innovation in education, environment, and empowerment. A cornerstone of this mission is the Sahaaj Pathshala initiative—informal, home-based learning centers run by dedicated local educators. Operating 26 days a month across Jharkhand, Bihar, and West Bengal, these pathshalas provide vital academic support to children from marginalized communities. They bridge learning gaps, foster daily school attendance, and significantly reduce dropout rates.
On July 6, 2026, a team comprising Dr. Mita Tarafder (Founding Trustee of Relearn Foundation), RELF team members Mr. Biplab Bhar and Mrs. Pramila Gupta, along with supporting visitors, conducted a field visit to three Sahaaj Pathshalas in Jamshedpur. The visit focused on evaluating on-ground impact, interacting with students and tutors, and laying the groundwork for a digitized student tracking drive.
Highlights from the Field Visit
1. Mrs. Punam Kumari’s Pathshala
(Bhuiyadih | Code: JH01–07)
Situated in Bhuiyadih, this center has been nurturing young learners for five years and currently supports 18 enrolled students.
Key Takeaway: Known for her warm and deeply compassionate approach, Tutor Punam creates a nurturing environment reminiscent of home. The children demonstrated inspiring enthusiasm for learning, showcasing a strong bond of trust and affection with their teacher.
2. Mrs. Gudiya Kumari’s Pathshala

Operating for a decade in Sonari, this center serves 15 active students and boasts a remarkable track record of helping numerous students successfully pass their Class 10 board examinations.

3. Mrs. Priya Sahu’s Pathshala

Located in Kadma, this center has been active for eight years under the guidance of Mrs. Priya Sahu, who brings extensive experience in teaching children from high-adversity backgrounds. The center currently accommodates 12 students.
Key Takeaway: During an interactive evaluation covering English lessons and mathematics, the children showed impressive focus and confidence. Their sincere, accurate responses highlighted the strong foundational understanding built in this classroom.
Driving Impact Through Data Digitization
Beyond qualitative interactions, this field visit marked the commencement of a comprehensive data collection initiative. By gathering essential student profiles—including academic performance metrics, school enrollment details, and attendance tracking—Relearn Foundation is transitioning toward digitized progress monitoring.
This strategic move will allow RELF to systematically address absenteeism, prevent dropouts, and ensure every child receives targeted support throughout their educational journey.
